Planners and Pregnancy: how keeping my bullet journal has helped me keep my sanity while I'm expecting

We all know that I might be just a tad obsessed with having and using a planner.

It keeps my life so much more organized than if I didn't have it in my life. It's changed forms a little the past few years, but it's a mainstay, and I still lug it around everywhere. Especially now that I'm pregnant.

I can honestly say that I've never seen a doctor so often as I see my OB. Pregnancy seems to be all about the doctors appointments. And now that I'm in my third trimester (!!!), they've amped us up to every two weeks. I know good prenatal care is important and a privilege, but seriously? So often? That's a conversation for another day.

In any case, between the seemingly endless number of appointments and reminders, and the whole pregnancy brain thing, disaster is bound to happen.

BUT! I have yet to miss a prenatal appointment. I'm very proud of myself, even though I can't take much of the credit.

Again, my little lifesaver in teal saves my hide.

It's been a while since I gave you a peek into my planner, so let's dive right in, shall we?

Probably the most important page, as far as appointments go, is my month at a glance page.

Super simple to set up, I just write the day and date, and then leave some space next to it. That's all. Then, when things (like doctor's appointments) get scheduled, I can just write 'em in. Voila.

These pages are also super helpful to see lots of information at a glance.

For example, my progesterone levels have been low this pregnancy (common for someone with infertility issues like mine), but my doctors want to make sure that we're tracking those hormone levels to keep me and baby healthy. Every two weeks, I go in for a blood draw to check my baseline levels, and I write it down on my weekly pages as well as these month at a glace pages. It's nice to be able to look at one page and be able to check on my progress for the month.

I also reference this page every time I set up a weekly spread, so I make sure to include any upcoming appointments or activities on those weekly pages as well.

Speaking of weekly pages...

Here's what those look like, lately.

I'm loving the week on two pages spread I've got going on now- it's working really well for me. It's got space to write notes for the day (like events or reminders about when I worked or what we were up to), and I use the space right under the date for things like my weekly weigh in. I can write in day-specific tasks on the day by day grid, or if it's something I just need to get done this week, I write those over on the right side in their categories.

It's also been handy to have a reminder on my weekly pages about my progesterone injections... because even though I do them every single Tuesday and Friday, I'd still forget if I didn't have them written down.

Another feature I'm really using a lot is the post-its I've got attached to the back cover.

You know how in "What to Expect When You're Expecting" they tell you that you should keep a list of questions for the doctor so you can ask at your next appointment?

Yeah, I'm terrible at that. Most of my questions are really simple ones, or really unimportant in the grand scheme of things (like, are those teeny red dots on my belly from broken capillaries or just dry skin?), but still, when we get to the part in the appointment when she asks if I have any questions, I just sit there and make awkward faces.

Not this month, though! Not this month! (One out of seven isn't so bad, right? Ahem.)

I've been writing my questions down on a post it that's stuck to the back cover of my notebook when I think of them, so when I have my appointment, I can just pull it out and ask. Handy. I could also use another page for the questions, but like I said, they're mostly really unimportant at this point, and I can just write any more-important answers down on the weekly page's notes section.

So there you have it! My brain- in cute teal form.
