Here in Iowa, Fall is the in-between time.
A few short weeks (if we're lucky) of respite from the soggy, thick summer heat before the blasting, icy cold of the winter begins. It's in the in-between time that we get the colors, the coolness, the warm sunshine.
I'm in the middle of my own little in-between time right now. We're done at work, closing up our house, waiting for Colorado. It feels... different. Quiet. The calm before the storm.
And in it, I'm finding beauty. The beauty of a productive afternoon, of listening to daytime radio shows, of long un-timed walks with the dog. It feels like a deep inhale.

Our dear co-worker/neighbor/friends who have become like family, and insisted on throwing us a "til we meet again" party, even though we missed the first (surprise) attempt and then showed up late to the second one.
The cake was good, the friendships cherished, and I didn't even cry.

I participated (read, didn't work!) in a women's retreat hosted by Camp last weekend- what a great retreat! It really blessed me.

The soybeans being harvested from the field across the road

That harvest-dust that covers everything

An amazing group of women in my Bible Study on Tuesdays, and the reminder that we keep growing, we keep growing, we keep growing

Visiting these two cuties and their little brother, too-- what a lucky auntie I am.
The love and friendship of a sister I gained through marriage-- being married to Trevor really has some major "perks," and my wonderful, patient, kind, thoughtful sister-in-law is certainly one of them.

Productive afternoons, clean dressers, and that accomplished feeling that comes from digging out from under all the to-do's.

That Camp still lets me stop by and use the internet so I can get back "on the grid" once and awhile!

THIS WEEK
on the blog!
Probably the least "yucky-feeling" political post you'll read today-- elections and politics have a way of dividing us, but as Christians, we need to focus on unity in Christ. (How Should a Christian Vote? part 2)
Sometimes, the herons (and the blessings) are just for us. (Herons)
